NEWS UPDATES

Elon’s Offer to Buy OpenAI

Elon Musk has made a $97.4 billion bid to acquire OpenAI’s nonprofit arm, intensifying his rivalry with Sam Altman. Backed by xAI and major investors, Musk claims he wants to restore OpenAI’s original focus on open-source AI. The offer complicates OpenAI’s transition to a for-profit model and ongoing talks with Microsoft. In response, Altman dismissed the bid with a post on X saying: “no thank you but we will buy twitter for $9.74 billion if you want.”

OpenAI’s Chip

OpenAI is close to launching its own AI chip aiming to reduce reliance on Nvidia. Reuters reports that the design could be finalized this year with production handled by TSMC using 3-nanometer technology. The chip will first be deployed on a limited scale for running AI models. OpenAI’s chip team led by former Google engineer Richard Ho has doubled in size as efforts accelerate.

Tools for Child Safety

Google, OpenAI, Roblox, and Discord have launched ROOST, a non-profit focused on child safety online. It will provide free AI tools to detect and report child exploitation. The initiative aims to unify safety tech and improve access for companies. ROOST has secured $27 million in funding and will collaborate with experts and AI developers.
