🗞️ News

Microsoft & Intel

Microsoft and Intel have announced a partnership where Intel will manufacture custom chips designed by Microsoft. The multi-year deal is valued at over $15 billion by Intel. Microsoft is also planning its own processor and AI accelerator designs.

This partnership is important for Intel's expanded foundry business and could help Intel regain its position as a leading chipmaker.

Google’s free AIs

Google introduced a series of open AI models called Gemma, inspired by Gemini models but lighter. Google provides tools and guidance for responsible development with Gemma, including a safety toolkit.

The models are optimized to run across frameworks, devices, and cloud platforms. Developers can access Gemma for free or apply for credits to support their work.

AI powered by light

Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania have developed a new type of chip that uses light instead of electricity to power AI computations. This silicon-photonics chip could dramatically increase processing speeds and reduce energy usage compared to traditional chips.

Its use of light may also allow for more private and secure computing by making data hacking much more difficult.
