NEWS UPDATES

Perplexity launches Comet, an AI-first web browser

Perplexity introduced Comet, a desktop and mobile browser that routes every search through the company’s answer engine, cites sources inline, and blocks ad trackers by default. Users can switch between “Answer” and “Explore” modes, pin research threads, and chat with PDFs without extensions.

For your team, Comet could trim hours spent toggling between Google, ChatGPT, and note apps. Pilot it with analysts or sales reps: if the built-in citations hold up, you might cut paid research tools and tighten data-privacy controls in one move.

OpenAI buys Jony Ive’s hardware startup for $6.5B

OpenAI closed a cash-and-stock deal to acquire Jony Ive’s stealth company, “LoveFrom Devices,” aiming to ship a purpose-built AI hardware line by 2026. Ive’s 80-person team will stay intact and work on voice-first terminals and wearables designed around GPT-5. The purchase adds industrial-design talent OpenAI lacked while deepening ties to Ive’s supply-chain partners in Asia.

Start mapping integration hooks for OpenAI’s on-device SDK now; preferred partners could gain early marketing slots when the hardware debuts.

Microsoft touts $500M in AI savings days after 9,000 layoffs

Internal memos reveal Microsoft offset half a billion dollars in cloud and ops costs by deploying Copilot and AutoGen agents across finance, legal, and HR. The announcement comes a week after the company cut 9,000 roles, many in overlapping functions. Leadership told managers to reinvest 20 percent of the savings in GPU capacity for new Copilot features.

Take note: the bar for AI ROI is now real cash savings, not pilot demos. Boards will ask how many head-hours your initiatives free up, and where to redeploy the dollars. Collect hard baselines before your next budget review.
