The European Union's new AI Act has officially gone into effect as of August 1, 2024. The law takes a risk-based approach, with most AI applications considered low-risk and exempt from regulation.
However, a subset of "high-risk" AI systems, such as those used for biometrics or in sensitive domains like healthcare, will face stricter requirements.
Microsoft has now listed OpenAI as a competitor in both AI and search, despite their long-standing partnership. Microsoft has invested $13 billion in OpenAI, running its models across its products, and being OpenAI's exclusive cloud provider.
However, in a recent SEC filing, Microsoft categorized OpenAI as a competitor, likely due to antitrust concerns around their relationship.
Google is bringing Google Lens to Chrome desktop to allow users to search for information about objects or text they select on a webpage.
Google is also introducing a "Tab Compare" feature that will provide an AI-powered summary of similar products across open tabs to aid online shopping.

Stay curious, leaders!
