NEWS UPDATES
Apple signals major AI investment push
Tim Cook spent an hour telling employees AI is “as big as the internet” and “ours to grab.” Apple will boost spending, shift Siri to a full LLM stack, and consider acquisitions to speed progress. The company is already prototyping on-device models that run without cloud calls.
Expect next-year iPhones to ship privacy-first AI that raises customer expectations for all brands. CEOs should review product roadmaps now: customers may soon demand offline AI and stricter data-use terms.
OpenAI raises $8.3B, valuation hits $300B
An oversubscribed round closed months early, lifting OpenAI to roughly $300B. Proceeds fund tens of thousands of H200 GPUs and GPT-5 follow-ons. Capacity will be sold in long-term blocks, and early buyers get discount tiers.
Procurement leads should lock multi-year quotas before prices climb with each new tranche.
Samsung signs $16.5B chip deal to power Tesla’s AI push
Samsung Foundry will supply next-generation 3-nanometer AI accelerators to Tesla over the next five years, a contract worth $16.5 billion. The chips will run in Tesla’s Dojo super-computer and in-car full-self-driving (FSD) hardware, starting with the 2027 vehicle line.
Long-dated chip contracts will push up spot prices for everyone else. If your 2026–27 AI roadmap depends on cutting-edge silicon, negotiate multi-year supply now—or explore lower-power inferencing options that don’t require 3-nm wafers.
