Good morning {{First Name| folks}}. Welcome back to the epitome of AI knowledge!

Let’s get into our starter, then the main course, and then dessert for the day…

STARTER

💸 OpenAI’s New Features & Reduced Prices

Key update: OpenAI has upgraded its model APIs (GPT-3.5-turbo and GPT-4) to have a feature called "function calling". This enables these AI models to produce code that executes specific functions described by developers. It could help create smarter chatbots and make data extraction from text more structured.

Also, a new variant of GPT-3.5-turbo can now process four times more previous information/context before generating new text, allowing it to stay on-topic better. Along with all of these, OpenAI has also reduced its prices for GPT-3.5-turbo meaning accessing AI models is getting cheaper and cheaper for us!

Why we should care: The function calling ability can streamline data extraction and analysis from text, providing useful insights. The focus on improving existing models, instead of creating entirely new ones, implies a more sustainable approach to AI development that could stabilize the industry. And the fact that these models are getting cheaper and cheaper is a good thing.

MAIN COURSE

🎶 AI Finished Final Beatles Song

Key update: Sir Paul McCartney (part of the famous band, The Beatles) has announced the release of a final Beatles recording (this year, no particular date) made possible through AI. The technology was used to isolate and enhance John Lennon’s voice from an old demo, allowing the completion of a song that has been unfinished for decades. This technique was initially used in Peter Jackson’s Beatles documentary, Get Back, where AI was deployed to separate the Beatles’ voices from background noise.

Why we should care: This remarkable use of AI in the creative industry could potentially transform the way content is generated and edited. Imagine getting back the voice of a past spokesperson or iconic personality associated with a brand for new music (creative application) or new ad campaigns (business application).

🏙 Google’s New AI Photo Editor

Key update: Google's new tool Imagen Editor uses AI to edit photos. The tool uses textual prompts and designated areas by users to create specific edits in the images. Google has also released EditBench, a tool to evaluate these AI-guided photo edits. However, due to concerns over responsible AI use, Google has not yet released Imagen Editor to the public.

Why we should care: The photo editing process could become faster, more efficient, and less reliant on advanced design skills, which can lead to cost savings and higher creativity for the average person.
