🗞️ News

Google finally launched Gemini

Google has finally launched its flagship AI model “Gemini” that can understand text, images, video, and audio. It is Google's most powerful AI model to date and is intended to compete with OpenAI's ChatGPT.

Gemini will first be available in Google's chatbot Bard and on Pixel phones, with more expansive uses planned over time. Google aims for Gemini to reestablish itself as the leader in AI after OpenAI's success with ChatGPT.

Elon is looking for funds

Elon Musk is seeking $1 billion in funding for his new AI company xAI. The company's first product Grok, is supposed to have a "rebellious streak" and be able to engage with "spicy" questions that other AI bots avoid.

It will also aim to incorporate real-time knowledge from X, Musk's social media platform, to distinguish itself. However, it will need to be able to distinguish real news from misinformation on X. So far Musk has raised $135 million from unnamed investors for xAI but is still seeking the remaining $865 million.

Nvidia investing in Japan

Nvidia plans to help build an AI ecosystem in Japan by partnering with local research organizations, companies, startups, and universities to establish "factories of AI".

Nvidia's CEO Jensen Huang said the company will set up an AI research laboratory in Japan and invest in local startups. The goal is to help Japan develop its own domestic AI infrastructure and expertise.
