📅 June 30 – July 1, 2026
. Top News.
SpaceX raised $75 billion on June 12, closed its first day at $161 per share, and ended the day valued at $2.1 trillion. It targeted $1.75 trillion. Markets gave it more. Retail investors accounted for 56% of IPO trading on the debut day.
The number worth paying attention to isn't the IPO size. It's that 93% of that $2 trillion valuation is being attributed to AI infrastructure, not rockets. SpaceX is being priced as an AI infrastructure company with a space business attached. Rocket Lab and Planet Labs surged 10%+ on debut day, signaling that public markets just created a new valuation category, not just a single event.
That has direct implications for how your teams think about AI investment benchmarks and valuation expectations. If infrastructure-heavy AI plays are being valued at this scale alongside Alphabet, Microsoft, and Meta, your capital allocation strategy needs to reflect that.
Two other things worth flagging. The IPO minted millionaires at every level of the company, welders and cafeteria staff included, which is a talent compensation signal your HR teams can't ignore. And with only 3-4% of equity public, Musk-driven sentiment could swing the stock 20-30%, making this a live case study in concentrated ownership risk.

When to use this?
When too many decisions escalate upward, leadership time gets consumed.
I’ll describe a business function or initiative below.
Build a Decision Escalation Matrix that clarifies:
Decisions teams should make independently
Decisions that require manager approval
Decisions that must escalate to leadership
Clear criteria for escalation
Examples of each decision category
Keep it simple and operational.
