Good morning {{First Name| folks}}. Welcome back to another complex day in AI simplified by yours truly (us!).
Let’s get into our starter, then the main course, and then dessert for the day…
STARTER
🤖 Meta’s Upper Hand On AI
Key update:
This is big news because Meta's current model, LLaMA, is already a favorite among researchers, but it's only allowed for research (not to make profits).
Why we should care:
Reading (and learning) is key to any successful person.
But reading is not for everyone. Some of the best insights are text-based (in books, articles, and reports). What if you could listen to books and learn MUCH faster?
Speechify helps you do exactly that.
It also lets you read AND listen to over 80,000 audiobooks, clone your own voice using AI (that’s fun!), and turn any script into animated audio & video.
It's the perfect tool to ensure you never have to read again!
We appreciate you supporting our sponsors!
MAIN COURSE
🏛 World’s First Laws On AI
Key update:
The EU has approved the world’s first comprehensive AI law. It places AI systems into different 'risk' buckets with different rules for each.
Systems with 'unacceptable risk' (think manipulative AI or real-time face recognition) get a red card. 'High-risk' systems (those in safety-critical areas or specific sectors like law enforcement) will need special registration and checks. And 'limited risk' systems just have to be nice and clear about what they're doing.
Why we should care:
If you're using AI in your business and have anything to do with the EU, this is big news. You might need to reevaluate how your AI systems work and how you handle customer data.
If your AI is classified as high-risk, brace yourself for some changes. But hey, on the bright side, this could be a chance to really show your customers you're committed to transparency and fair AI.
🛍 Google AI For Travel And Shopping
Key update:
Google has announced updates to its experimental AI-powered search system, called Search Generative Experience (SGE). These updates, particularly for travel and shopping, make searching more insightful. To try these features, head here.
If you're looking for a place or product, you will now see combined information from around the web, along with reviews, photos, and all details. Google is also launching a feature that lets you put search results directly into a spreadsheet and share it with others. I’m excited for this!
Why we should care:
It can affect how people find your business or products. When someone searches for something related to your business, Google will show them a whole lot of useful information, including reviews and pictures.
There will be many things to optimize for here.
