What’s good prompters!

I’ve got quite the hacks for you this Sunday! Today, we’re going to be talking about one of my favorite tools, Notion.

I'll show you how I use Notion (free) and it's new AI feature add-on (only $10 a month) to literally save hours a week.

Prompt: Turn your notes into a project plan in seconds

I hate flipping through my notes in Notion. Absolutely despise it. I have all my notes there but who’s gonna go through all that, right?

Then I was like… “Okay, let’s try using this AI thing to extract these because I’m lazy”.

And guess what? It did a pretty dang good job at converting it into tables, to-do lists, plans, and whatnot.

Notion AI helped make my messy notes and docs into much more tangible and action-based items.

I gotta share these prompts with you.

So I started off with some notes that I wrote for an app I wanted to create (let’s call it “Placebook” (lol):

These are just raw notes. They even had spelling errors. I used Notion AI to quickly clean up the spelling and grammar.

Turning notes into Project Plan

Then with the following prompt, I turned the notes into a Project plan (in 5 seconds):

Prompt: Turn the notes above into a project plan highlighting key objectives, tasks and deliverables with estimated time durations

Oh jeez - that’s quick. The project plan includes all the important aspects like building the actual app and doing market analysis. It also split it up into “phases” when I never asked it to do that. Nice touch, Notion AI!

Turning Project Plan into Marketing Plan

Now let’s build a marketing plan (because why not?)…

Prompt: Create 3 variations of a marketing plan. Share the data in a table format and include the duration, cost and expected ROAS (return on adspend)

Those are good variations. Tried and tested. So it’s nothing “uncommon” or “novel” but pretty safe bets.

That is also because we haven’t asked it for “uncommon or novel” ideas.

I also like that Notion AI added the metrics to particularly keep an eye on. That’s a nice addition that it came up with looking at the context. Good work!

Turning Project Plan into Hiring Plan

If we’ve come this far with the project plan, we might as well ask Notion AI for templates and advice on hiring.

Let’s ask it to brainstorm the first 5 hires in the company…

Prompt: Brainstorm the first 5 hires at the company. For each hire, write about their role in detail and provide templates for interview questions that I can use to make the hiring process easier

These are good. Clear and concise. I would have liked some more detail on compensation though. Like what kind of salary expectation would they have, and is it suggested to give equity?

These are things that I’d want it to tell me.

So let’s do that exactly…

You can highlight a specific extract and ask Notion AI with another prompt:

Prompt: Provide some more detail in compensation (numbers and equity percentages for each role).

This is what it comes up with:

That’s more like it! I searched up average salaries for these and they’re around the ballpark range. Of course, this depends on the type of market we are in too :)

Turning Notes into speech for your team

Finally, I thought it would be pretty cool to turn this into a confident speech for your team now that you’ve hired people.

Prompt: Write a speech for your team with the goal to inspire and encourage them to build a large company. The tone of the speech should be confident and friendly.

I realized this speech was too much about features and less inspirational than I’d like it to be

So guess what?

I added the following prompt to Notion AI:

Shorten the speech. This speech contains a lot about features. Only include inspirational and motivational aspects in the speech. Talk less about features and more about vision.

This is what it came up with:

Much better. Slightly basic (so you’ll have to add a bit more about personal experiences with your employees). But for a speech, I like it. Great first draft.

So this was just one workflow use case. But I use it all the time for things like rewriting, summarizing, making tables out of “stuff” etc.

It saves me hours of my time every month.
