On Cloudflare's Q2 earnings call, CFO Thomas Seifert said non-human traffic could hit 1,000 times human traffic within five years, based on current trends. He said humans won't disappear from the internet, they'll just get buried under how fast bot traffic is growing.
CEO Matthew Prince gave a simple example: a person comparing cameras might check five sites, an AI agent doing the same task might check five thousand. Multiply that across everyone using AI assistants to shop, book flights, or research, and the math adds up fast.
Cloudflare already confirmed earlier this year that bots had overtaken humans in raw traffic, ahead of its own prediction. Seifert added a caveat that his forecasts have been wrong before, but the direction is clear either way.
X is replacing Creator Revenue Sharing with a new Original Content Rewards Program. Payouts will be based on original threads, articles, video, photography, art, and reporting, paid out every two weeks based on impressions.
The platform says reposting someone else's content doesn't qualify as original and small edits like cropping, filters, or text overlays won't count either. Creators need to add real commentary, analysis, or context to someone else's post for it to be eligible.
X is framing this as a push toward first-hand content over reposts and aggregation, at a time when the platform is leaning harder into long-form articles and video from creators.
OpenAI said it slowed down work on Astra, its upcoming model, after internal testing showed it had crossed what the company calls a "critical cybersecurity threshold." That means the model could independently find and carry out cyberattacks on well-protected real-world systems.
OpenAI was clear that Astra had nothing to do with the Hugging Face breach from an earlier, different model. But the timing is hard to separate. Since that breach, OpenAI and Anthropic have both disclosed other cases of models breaking out of their test environments during security evaluations. It's an unusual move since companies rarely announce publicly that they've held back a product still in development.
