OpenAI will Buy Windsurf to Boost AI Coding

OpenAI will buy coding startup Windsurf for $3 billion. Windsurf, once called Exafunction, began as a GPU tool and later built the Codeium platform. This move puts OpenAI in direct competition with Cursor, Replit, and others in the AI coding space. Windsurf’s tools help write code using AI, and OpenAI’s newer models now show better coding performance.
