. Top News.
Intel announced a $15 billion stock offering on Monday, its first public share sale since going public in 1971. Shares fell more than 3% in premarket trading due to dilution concerns, even though the stock nearly tripled this year.
The money is earmarked for general corporate purposes, mainly capital expenditures tied to AI demand. Finance chief David Zinsner said most of it goes toward factory tooling, with a bigger spending jump expected in 2027. Underwriters also got a 30-day option to buy an additional $2.25 billion in shares.
Intel's data center unit grew 59% last quarter, and executives say customer demand for its chips is now outpacing what the company currently manufactures. The stock sale is Intel betting it can turn that demand into a real comeback.
Microsoft plans to significantly ramp up production of its next-generation AI chip, the Maia 300, in an effort to persuade major cloud customers, such as Anthropic, to adopt it. The chip could be unveiled as soon as next month, with Microsoft in talks with TSMC to secure over 300,000 units for 2027 delivery.
The current chip, Maia 200, saw slow uptake after Microsoft first introduced the Maia line back in 2023. Google's TPUs and Amazon's Trainium chips both got a multi-year head start, proving themselves to outside customers.
Whether Maia 300 clicks with Anthropic or other major Azure customers, rather than Nvidia hardware, is the real test here.
CrowdStrike and Palo Alto Networks jumped more than 5% on Monday to close at record highs, with the rest of the cybersecurity sector following. This was seen after last week's Black Hat conference in Las Vegas, where AI agents dominated the conversation as the industry's biggest new threat.
BTIG analysts raised their price target on CrowdStrike to $237 and on Palo Alto to $380, and lifted Rubrik's target too. Tenable and Rubrik gained more than 7%, while Netskope, Zscaler, SailPoint, and SentinelOne all climbed around 4-5%.
Analysts say AI agents have "fundamentally changed the threat landscape," but adoption of AI-powered security tools is still early. Whether Monday's rally holds depends on whether that spending shows up in actual earnings.
